Paint the Town! 2020 Exhibition at Window Art Gallery, December 2- January 4
This September, 45 local artists worked to capture the beauty and charm of Kingston's Old Sydenham Heritage Conservation District--otherwise known as "Sydenham Ward"-- during Paint the Town! 2020. Beginning December 2, original artwork "begun or done" during Paint the Town will be on exhibit at Widow Art Gallery. This exhibition is free and open to the public.
Paint the Town is a two-day painting event hosted yearly by Kingston School of Art (KSOA) as part of the International Plein Air Painters’ Worldwide Paint Out.
Plein air or “open air” painting was developed in France in the mid-19th century, and artists work outside, using a variety of media, from oils, through watercolours and pastels. Their artwork is inspired by the special quality of natural light and their outside surroundings. Paint the Town was begun by KSOA in 2013 and cycles annually through five districts in Kingston.
The weather for this year's event was perfect and new and experienced plein air artists captured the beauty of Sydenham Ward’s parks, historical streetscapes, heritage homes and gardens, water views, churches, and much more. Now, these original, finished pieces will be on exhibit until January 4, with some available for purchase.
Art lovers are encouraged to visit Window Art Gallery, beginning December 2, to see the full variety and beauty of the Paint the Town! 2020 collection and support the work of local artists.
