Nautical Nights: Sea Sickness

Museums & Attractions

Join Rowena McGowan, Curator at the Museum of Health Care, to explore some of the many ways that healthcare and water travel have intersected throughout history. Learn why so-called coffin ships were docking in Kingston and how they led to a mass grave near Kingston General Hospital. Discover the strange way that smallpox vaccine was transported before planes and refrigeration. Feeling a little seasick? Find out the Canadian connection to anti-nausea medication. These and other stories will be illustrated with objects from the Museum of Health Care’s collection.

Rowena McGowan is the Curator of the Museum of Health Care at Kingston. Previously, she has held positions at the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum, Semaphore lab, the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology, the Manitoba Museum, and the Lac La Biche Museum.
