Murney Tower is a small, local museum operated by Kingston Historical Society in partnership with Parks Canada. It is one of four Martello Towers in Kingston and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Rideau Canal and Kingston Fortifications. It is also the oldest operating museum in Kingston, having celebrated its 95th anniversary in 2020. The Museum has over 1000 domestic and military artifacts and offers tours, educational programs, and exhibits.
We have two special exhibits this year - "The Voices of Murney" exhibition which focuses on the lives of soldiers and families who lived in the tower between 1848-1888 and a site-specific art installation created by Métis artist Tracey-Mae Chambers as part of her nationwide #truthandhealingcanada project.
** As a non-profit organization, we operate with the support of donations and adjudicated grants. This year, tour admissions are run by donation, any and all donations are greatly appreciated.**
Tower National Historic Site is a squat stone defensive tower located on a point of raised ground known as Murray Point on the west shore of Kingston Harbour. Murney Tower is also a component of Kingston Fortifications National Historic Site. This designation refers to the tower with its ditch and glacis.
